come to find out - these hives all have young bees with new queens and are not yet full established. With the past week of rain, it is possible for the young bees to eat all the honey that they might have already produced and starve to death, therefore these jars are for feeding. Later, within a few weeks of sunny weather, the small 5-panel hives will be replaced with the normal 2stacked hives you (we) normally see, as these smaller one will fill up. The panels within these will be lifted out and put in the newer big box-hives. |
